Foggy Golden Gate Park

On my second to last day in the US, i went to Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. It was one of the main reasons i wanted to return to SF as i hadn't looked around it properly when i was here a few weeks ago. The day started bright enough, if a little cooler than the last few days. Then the fog rolled in from the bay and you have never seen fog like it!!! well cool.

Kind of made the whole day a bit better really as it gave the parka whole surreal feel to it. I did get wet, a little bit, but it didn't actually bother me!!! Rain mac got used for the first time on this trip. Think tomorrow is supposed to be a better day, back to sunshine!!

Went to the De Young museum first. Designed by Herzog and De Muron who designed the birds nest stadium for the Olympics recently. Beautiful building!!! They had an exhibit of Yves Saint Laurent Haute Couture which was pretty cool, if a bit way out there. There also had an exhibit of architecual sculpture which had me well happy for a few hours. i wasn't allowed to take photos though, so bit of a bummer there.

Went across to the academy of Sciences next. Its just reopened after being rebuilt and it was packed. Guess the fog and rain didn't help as everyone was looking for shelter. it was well cool, just way to packed too be able to really enjoy it. They have an indoor rain forest, and a planetarium, and an Aquarium all under one roof, along with lots of other exhibits and stuff. The roof is entirely covered in grass and is the Living Roof. Apparently its about as green as any building can be!!!!

Back at the hostel now, killing a few hours. Going out tonight with Tom to explore the delights of San Francisco which should be a laugh!!!

Pictures are on facebook.
