Time is slipping by, i really dont want this trip to end, but i know it has to.

Wow. What an awesome 24 hours since I wrote the last update

I went quad biking in the Australian Outback at Kings Creek Station. It was so so so excellent. The outback from that angle was truly amazing and the scenery was breathtaking in places. We were out for an hour and covered about 20kms.

From there we headed to Kings Canyon. It’s between Alice Springs and Uluru. Amazing scenery. We did a hike along the canyon floor to watch the sun setting on the canyon walls. Beautiful. And then this morning we were up at 4.30am for a sunrise hike along the rim of the canyon. Breathtaking. I feel so alive after it. We hiked nearly 6kms. Francis and I did it in just over 2 hours. The rest took a more leisurely pace, but we kind of wanted to keep moving and work our way through it. We even took a 20 minute off track diversion to see a rock pool called the Garden of Eden. When we figured out that we were going in the wrong direction, we headed back!! The views as the sun rose were beautiful. Gave America’s canyons a run for their money!!!

Didn’t get much sleep last night as we had no aircon in the room. I was going to sleep outside under the stars but figured as we were up so early there wasn’t much point. Well I wish I had now. I might not have woken up with 40, yes that’s correct – 40, mosquito bites on my feet and legs. So not impressed am I!!! I managed to avoid them for the most part of the last 3 weeks, and then they all hit me at once. It’s like Braille on my legs. IT probably reads “I’m going to make you suffer you pasty skinned Irish Fool!!!!” so I’m desperately trying not to scratch them now, which isn’t easy given that there are so many of them, and so close together!!!!

We are heading for Uluru now, the last 36 hours of the trip before we drive back to Alice Springs tomorrow night. Whilst there we are doing a sunset, a sunrise and a hike around the base of it!!! Action packed!! We will go out for a last meal and night out on Monday night, and then I fly to Melbourne on Tuesday morning. There for a week, once night in Sydney and then fly to NZ on the 21st Jan. And then begins the last leg of my journey!!!!
