Well its been a couple of days since i logged on last, so lots has happened. Thursday, we left cedar lodge in El Portal (where we were staying) and headed for Sonora. We wen via Hetch Hetchy, a resevoir and Dam nearly 3/4 the size of Yosemite Valley, still in Yosemite NP. Beautiful setting. Then we drove onto Sonora, stopping off for luch in Jamestown. Foo was lovely, waitress was fine until it came to the bill. Service in thiscountry is ruled by 15% tip or else they get narked!!! anyway left her behind us chewing wasps and we arrived in Sonora. Stayed at the Days Inn which was very nice indeed. Had a bit of an explore and me and two of the group found a nice wine bar serving only californian wines. had a few - well it would be rude not to! then met the rest of the group for dinner. Beautiful restaurant called dragonback grill. Beautiful steak and sweet potato chips, gorgeous wines and a brilliant waitress (they can do their job well and be genuine). Moved on to a small pub called the frog and fiddle whre we found a guy who playedguitar for us until the small hours.A bit too drunk and we had such a lon day today in the bus, so it wasnt the best move but thankfully no being sick out the window for me today.
So this morning we left Sonora, heading for Lone Pine.A long day like i said. We went over the Sonora pass at nearly 10000 feet, drove to Bodie, a ghost town preserved for over 150 years. Then we drove along the sierra nevada mountain range and saw some volcanic lakes and rock formations. Well cool. Then we stopped for Dinner in a town called Bishop (very nice steak again - my body craves meat all day today!!) and we arrived in Lone pine about an hour ago. Lone pine is nothing much, we are here because its close to Death Valle, the lowst point on earth in the northern hemisphere - not sure yet how far below sea level it is but its apparently very hot as its closer to the centre of the earth.
Staying in a best western tonight in what can only be described as an aircraft hanger of a room. asbig as 5 of the 05 rooms in Jurys for anyone who knows them. Its called the John Wayne room and has pictures of him on the walls and stuff. Mental but cool.
and from there we head to vegas tomorrow night. getting really excited about that bit!! Back to hiking mode come monday so watch this space as they say.
