For day 3, i couldn't quite decide whether to climb the bridge or head for the beach. If i chose the beach, there are so many to choose from. If i chose to climb the bridge, its 4 hours, so i would need to time it so i didn't waste a whole day on it. These tough decisions, it takes it out of me!!!
In the end, i walked towards the harbour, figuring i would decide somewhere along the way. Halfway down i came across Sydney Tower. It stands in the middle of the city and has 360 degree panoramic views of the city. So i decided to do that. once up there i could see the sea so that made up my mind for me.
I jumped on a ferry (its the main way to get around the coast here) and headed for Manly beach. its to the north of Sydney, at the entrance to Sydney Harbour. By the way, Sydney Harbour is huge. Sydney itself is just a tiny part of it. The Ferry went out past the Opera House and all the way along to the point where you can enter the harbour. Manly is just north of that and Manly beach itself is on the outside of the harbour. Beautiful. Long Sandy beach, proper surf waves. Very busy as the sun has finally come to Sydney (today is the first day of summer here!!! Irony is not lost on me!!) I strolled along, walked in the sea, generally chilled out. It was well cool.
All in all i spent about 5 hours there, so when i headed back to Sydney i was wrecked tired. So i fell into bed and slept for 10 hours straight!!! Its now Monday morning here and I'm going to head to Bondi beach today. The Sun is still shining. 30 degrees today apparently. Will probably do the bridge climb tomorrow and i fly to Melbourne on Wednesday. Going to a place called Phillip Island on Thursday with Thomas and Roisin, and then have a few free days in Melbourne before i fly back to Sydney on Sunday. Then its Surf School a week today !!!
By the way, and no offence to any Australian friends i may have made, or have yet to make, but i cant help but laugh every time i hear them talking like an episode of Kath and Kim. it cracks me up!!! but they really do talk like that. Well some of the do anyway!!!!
I have photos, but the Internet connection isn't the quickest here so i will upload them to facebook and picasa in the next few days when i move on!!!
Off to apply my sunscreen - or slip slap slop as they call it here!!!??? hey, if it works for them, who am i to argue.
